These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 Verily we are undone. 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
