The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
