He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you attended to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
