He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
