The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink. 33 and, indeed, if you pay heed to a mortal like yourselves, you will surely be the losers! 34 Does he promise you that when you die and have become dust and bones, that you will be brought forth again? 35 ۞ What you are promised is indeed far-fetched. 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me." 39 Answered (the Lord): "They shall wake up repenting soon." 40 And the Cry seized them justly, and We made them as scum; so away with the people of the evildoers! 41 Then, after them, We brought forth other generations. 42 no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after the other. Every time an apostle came to a people they denied him. So We made one follow the other (to its doom), and turned them into bygone tales. Cursed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and a manifest authority 45 To Pharaoh and his nobles who behaved with arrogance, for they were a conceited lot, 46 So they said: shall we believe in two human beings like unto us, while their nation are to us slaves? 47 So they denied them, and became of those who were destroyed. 48 And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Musa the Book, that haply they may be guided. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water. 50
