The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 Yet if they see a sign (the unbelievers) turn their backs and say: 'This is but a continuation of sorcery' 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
