He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And whereas he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
