Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 "To bring all the wise magicians to you." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 The Pharaoh replied, "In addition to your rewards, you will become my close friends thereafter." 114 They said, 'Moses, wilt thou cast, or shall we be the casters?' 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
