He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
