The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they have been differing? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
