The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sky, and by the nightly comer! 1 And what will make you to know what At-Tariq (night-comer) is? 2 (It is a nightly radiant star). 3 For every soul there is a watcher. 4 Let man reflect on what he was created from. 5 he has been created out of a seminal fluid 6 Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs, 7 Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life) 8 On the Day when man's deepest secrets shall be put to the test 9 Then he shall have no power nor any helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) 12 That this (Qur'an) is a decisive word 13 And it is not a frivolity. 14 They (disbelievers) plot every evil plan, 15 and I too am devising a guile. 16 So respite the unbelievers; delay with them awhile. 17
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
