The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
