He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
