He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attend to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he feareth 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
