The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a host of the ancients 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit abundant. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those of the right hand. 38
