He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And hath fear, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and grass, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
