The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This has been happening all along. 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
