He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 olives, dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grass, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
