The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
