The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount, 1 And by the Book Inscribed. 2 in an exposed parchment 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
