And when the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 he said to them: 'I do not know you' 62 They said, “In fact we have brought to you the matter which these people doubted.” 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 "So leave with your family late in the night, yourself remaining in the rear, and let none turn back to look, and go where you will be commanded." 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival). 67 He said, 'These are my guests; put me not to shame, 68 "But fear Allah, and shame me not." 69 "Did we not restrain you," they said, "from (entertaining) creatures from the outside world?" 70 [Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]." 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 Therefore the scream overcame them at sunrise. 73 And We made the upside there of downwards, and We rained on them stones of baked clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 That town lies on a road which still exists. 76 Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers. 77 The people of the Wood were also surely wrongdoers. 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
