And when the messengers came unto the family of Lot, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They answered: "Nay, but we have come unto thee with [the announcement of] something that they [who are given to evil] have always been wont to call in question, 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 "So leave with your family late in the night, yourself remaining in the rear, and let none turn back to look, and go where you will be commanded." 65 And We made known to him this decree that the wrongdoers were to be utterly cut off in the morning. 66 Then came the people of the city, exulting at the news. 67 and he told them, "These are my guests, so do not disgrace me. 68 "And do not disgrace me. Have some fear of God." 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so). 71 Verily by your life they were utterly confused in their (lustful) drunkenness. 72 At sunrise a dreadful Shout seized them. 73 And We utterly confounded them, and We rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 Indeed in this are signs for the believers. 77 Since the People of the Forest were unjust, 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
