Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving, 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 Forgive me and my father: He was surely among those who went astray. 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error). 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 no caring friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
