The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
