The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great event, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 It will be a place of return 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
