Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 In which are high thrones. 13 And cups set at hand. 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heaven how it has been raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
