Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And cushions ranged 15 And carpets spread around. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
