He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And hath fear, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
