The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated in a nearby land and after this defeat, 2 In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome. 3 within a few years: [for] with God rests all power of decision, first and last. On that day the believers too will have cause to rejoice, 4 In Allah's help to victory. He helpeth to victory whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 This is the promise of God. God does not ignore His promise, but many people do not know. 6 They know an outward part of this life, but of the Everlasting Life they are inattentive. 7 Do they not think for themselves that God did not create the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them without reason and a determined purpose? But many men reject the meeting with their Lord. 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 Then the end of those that did evil was evil, for that they cried lies to the signs of God and mocked at them. 10
