He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 you ignore him. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 On honoured leaves 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
