The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
