'Ad (people) belied the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
