Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
