The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
