Al-Shams
The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
