The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
