The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 We never destroyed a village whose term had not already been decreed. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 And yet, they [who deny the truth] say: "O thou unto whom this reminder has [allegedly] been bestowed from on high: verily, thou art mad! 6 If you are a man of truth, why can't you bring the angels to us?" 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad SAW) amongst the sects (communities) of old. 10 And whenever a Messenger came to them, they never failed to mock him. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 They would not believe in it (the Quran), and already the example of (Allah's punishment of) the ancients (who disbelieved) has gone forth. 13 Had We opened a door for them in the sky through which they could easily pass, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
