The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome. 3 in a few years. To God belongs the Command before and after, and on that day the believers shall rejoice 4 in God's help; God helps whomsoever He will; and He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 5 [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfill His promise - but most people know [it] not: 6 They know an outward part of this life, but of the Everlasting Life they are inattentive. 7 Do they not ponder about their own selves? God has created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them for a purpose and for an appointed time? Yet many deny they will ever meet with their Lord. 8 Have they not journeyed in the land and observed what wise hath been the end of those before them? They were stronger than they in power and they broke up the earth and they inhabited it with greater affluence than these have inhabited it, and their apostles came unto them with evidences. And Allah was not one to wrong them, but themselves they were wont to wrong. 9 In the long run evil in the extreme will be the End of those who do evil; for that they rejected the Signs of Allah, and held them up to ridicule. 10
