Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
