The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what ask they? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 Living therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
