Nay, by the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 A warning for people -- 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. 39 in Gardens they will question 40 concerning the sinners, 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So whoever wills may heed advice from it. 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
