The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the great news - 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
