The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
