The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
