He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 You neglect. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
