The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 a return for the insolent, 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
