The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the great tidings! 2 About which they differ? 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 a fitting requital, 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
