The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Terror descends 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And shade extended 30 and flowing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
