The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the heaven and the comer by night; 1 And what will make you to know what At-Tariq (night-comer) is? 2 It is the piercing star. 3 No soul is there but hath over it a watcher. 4 Let the human reflect of what he is created. 5 Created from a gushing fluid. 6 issuing from between the loins [of man] and the pelvic arch [of woman]. 7 Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! 8 A day when the secrets will be examined. 9 [man] will have no power, and no helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) 12 Indeed the Qur'an is a decisive Word. 13 And no trifle. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 but I too plan against them. 16 So grant the unbelievers a respite: let them alone for a while. 17
