And convey unto them the story of Abraham 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 “When we considered you equal to the Lord Of The Creation.” 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers! 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
